Wrap: Wednesday’s Word Of The Week

With architectural grade structural members finished in the factory, there is a risk that they will get dirty or marred while traveling to the jobsite or being installed. Proper loading, jobsite storage, and handling are critical – but factory wrapping also plays a part.

Wrapping is optional, but very common on Architectural or Premium grade projects. Glulam members are wrapped individually or in bundles with a water resistant cover, just like big presents. The wrap can help protect glulam from road grime, light rain, and minor scuffs.

*Wednesday’s Word Of The Week is a feature on Unalam’s Wood Times Blog. Each Wednesday our structural engineer, Rik Vandermeulen, will discuss a new term associated with glulam manufacturing. He will do this until we run out of words. If there is a timber or glulam term that you have heard of and want to know more about, let us know in the comments.
