On tours, we are commonly asked whether we have to bend the wood gradually over a number of hours, or whether we need to steam the wood to bend it. From this video, you can see that the whole process is done fairly quickly, without steam or heat. The trick is planing each ply to the correct thickness, so that it can bend. The tighter the radius, the thinner the ply.
