Top 4 Reasons Why You Need To Build With Glulam

Here’s a list of just four of the reasons why you need to build with glulam (by Unalam, of course.)

4. Glulam is an environmentally friendly product. Wood is a renewable raw material and because glulam is made with nominal lumber we are using smaller pieces of wood to create bigger glulam members. This lessens the need to harvest older, larger trees. Additionally, glulam manufacturing and construction requires less energy than other building products like steel and concrete. And, we have heated our plant with our saw chips since the late 1970s, saving landfill space and greatly reducing our carbon footprint.

3. Glulam is structural. Glulam puts the strongest wood where it is needed most, achieving large section sizes with high allowable stresses. And, glulam is easily curved and tapered to meet almost any building profile you can imagine.

2. Glulam is beautiful. Unlike other building products – steel, framing lumber, and concrete (for instance) – our glulam does not need to be concealed after installation. Glulam not only gives buildings a wonderful aesthetic, but our customers save money because they do not need to cover up the structure.

1. Our Glulam is made in America, and buying from us strengthens the local community. Buying from us supports American manufacturing. We are proud to have been manufacturing all of our wood products in upstate New York since the late 1800s. Our raw material is grown in the US – southern yellow pine lumber is sourced from Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana and other southern states and Douglas fir lumber is from out west. And, as part of our commitment to our local community, we source parts and equipment from other nearby businesses.
