Spot the Plugs In This Glulam Combination Lay-up

To get glulam beams wider than 10.5″ you need to do a combination lay-up. This special lay-up alternates boards of different widths (you can best see the combination of this beam in its end shot.) The maximum width you can reach this way is about 24″.

This combination lay-up is unusual because it is going to be visible in the building, so we had run plugs along the full length of the beam. If we had not done that, there would have been a small, but visible, gap between the boards. We think you will find that in the side view it is extremely hard to find the plug (so much so that we added highlights to help.)
This is another example of the complicated work the Unalam team can do.
