Making A Unadilla Silo For #ThrowbackThursday
Our corporate name is still officially Unadilla Silo Company, Inc., but we have not made wood silos commercially since the mid 1980s. Our recently retired accountant, Lorraine, volunteers with the local Walton, NY Historical Society and they ordered a silo for display at the Delaware County Fair. So, we had to dust off our old machinery and figure out how to make a silo again.

Since this is our family’s heritage, my dad (our CEO) and I thought it would be fun to work on the dowel holes and puzzle through the old silo notes. What we found impressed us; the custom machinery (which still works) ingeniously and efficiently made the silo parts. It gave us pause to think of a time when we manufactured wooden silos on such a scale for the many family farms that once dotted our local area. We hope the fair visitors will think wistfully on this bygone era when they tour our silo.
You can watch us drilling dowel holes and see some of the vintage doors and fasteners we will be using on this silo in the video, below.
