Space from June 26 through September 30, 2014. This exhibition highlights existing

Last year, Unalam was paired with a group of emerging architects who won
an open competition to design an innovative structural use for timber. Over the
past 12 months, Unalam’s designers and skilled tradespeople have worked with
the architectural team to make their design a reality. The result is a
cutting-edge display of a glulam concept designed to wow architects, engineers,
developers, and the general public. This display, along with three other
winning projects, will be unveiled at the June 26th BSA Space
opening.

“Unalam is honored to have been chosen as a material supplier for this
project,” says Zoë van der Meulen, Unalam’s vice president of communication.
“When we saw the first concept drawings from the architectural team we said to
ourselves, ‘Is this even possible?’ Then we dug in, as we always do, knowing
that if it could be created, we were the only manufacturer who could do it. I
am proud of the way our team stretched themselves to make this happen. I am
also thrilled that Unalam had this opportunity to be a vanguard in increasing
timber building in America.”

About Unalam – In 1892,
the Van Cott family began selling lumber in Unadilla, NY and in 1906 made the
first Unadilla silo, beginning a product line that would serve farmers until
the 1980s. The company incorporated as the Unadilla Silo Company, Inc. in 1909.

To further its commitment to
farmers, the Unadilla Silo Company experimented with glue laminated (glulam) barn
rafters in 1928. By 1963, this business had picked up steam and the Unadilla Laminated
Products division expanded into a new facility in nearby Sidney, NY where
glulam production continues today.
