Extreme Face Bonding
Last week we published a post on the Face Bonding process. This morning it was all hands on deck for a super special gluing.
We are currently manufacturing beams that are 14″ wide, almost 6′ deep, and over 80′ long! Anything over 10-1/2″ wide requires a combination lay up, and therefore a special gluing process.
To create the 14″ width, we staggered 2×4 and 2×12 material while laying up the plies. You can the seam in the photo below, where the 2×12 ends and the 2×4 begins.
Since the beams are so long, we need a lot of hands working together to lay up the 104 80′ long plies in under 1 hour.
In the next post we’ll show you how we move, and plane a 6′ deep beam that weighs more than 22,000 lbs…
