A Closer Look at Glulam Arch Manufacturing

This video takes a closer look at the gluing part of glulam manufacturing. Here employees are gluing together what will become an arch leg for the Vertical Screen, Inc. headquarters in Warminster, PA.

Boards first get fed through a glue spreader and then placed onto forms that have been specifically set-up for the job. When all of the boards are in place, employees begin winching the material toward the forms and then securing it with clamps. In this case, we also needed the added force of a forklift to coax the end of the material toward the forms.

When the glue has cured, employees will remove the arch from the forms and plane and finish it to the customer’s specifications. There’s a photo of a finished arch leg shown at the end of the video.
