UNALAM: COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABLE WOOD MANUFACTURING AND CONSTRUCTION

Architects use wood because it is friendly with Mother Earth.

Our Unalam team shares your values of excellence, commitment to quality, and making business decisions that benefit our community and our planet. Our customers have the advantage of our custom wood design, engineering and manufacturing expertise. We manufacture all of our glulam and fabricate our steel connections at our plant in Sidney, NY, USA, employing talented local team members and partnering with local vendors.

Since the 1970s, we have used our wood waste to heat our plant, minimizing our carbon footprint and creating savings that are passed along to our customers. And we are proud to have been one of the first North American glulam manufacturers to become Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain-of-Custody certified.

We are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain-of-Custody certified for purchasing, manufacturing and selling FSC® 100% and FSC® Mix lumber for use in our custom glulam material.

If your project specifies FSC® certified glulam, look to Unalam to provide that for you.

Because Unalam is FSC® Chain-of-Custody certified, it makes it possible for our customers to obtain the LEED Certified Wood Credit (MRc7.)

For companies like Unalam that manufacture certified products, certification means that the wood products have come from certified forests. All materials are tracked as they leave the forests and become products down stream. This “chain of custody” (COC) certification process is quite simple. Like any inventory control system, COC allows products to be segregated and identified as having come from a particular source—in this case, an FSC®-certified forest.

FSC’s® model of certification allows products that flow from certified forests to enter the marketplace with a credential that is unique. Any FSC® labeled product can be traced back to a certified source. This aspect of the system is the basis for any credible certification system and is the link between consumer preference and responsible, on-the-ground forest management.
